Introduction to Used Excavator

Used excavator is a reconditioned excavator with a certain warranty attached to it. Used excavators are mostly sold in third world countries, where pricing is a key decesion input while purchase is made. These used excavator also form a separate line of business (LOB) for OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) in a typically saturated market. The used excavators are bought back, refurbished and sold in the open market with standard or less than standard warranties as the case may be. These LOBs are also operated by large ouction houses, who deal with multiple brands. These auction houses normally sell the excavators on "as is where is" basis.

Used Excavators are heavy equipment used in civil work, mining, construction and agricultural appications. An used excavator, also called a 360-degree used excavator or digger, sometimes abbreviated simply to a 360, is an engineering vehicle consisting of a backhoe and cab mounted on a pivot (turntable is a more apt description) atop an undercarriage with tracks or wheels. The term used excavator is sometimes used as a general term for any piece of digging equipment.

Used Excavators are fun to watch. Look around and you’ll probably notice that most used excavators are on tracks. Used Wheeled excavators are popular heavy equipment used for mining large volumes of soil, coal or ore and civil works. All used excavators are designed to move large amounts of soil and earth in a minimal amount of time. Used Large excavators are useful for digging foundations and other huge projects, but many times you need a used smaller excavator to handle more delicate jobs. These used smaller excavators are also called compact excavators or min excavators. Used mini excavators bring many advantages to a wide range of construction jobsites. Used mini excavators are most often found at work at construction sites in densely populated urban areas. However, used mini excavators can just as easily be spotted in modern suburbia on a new home construction or remodel site. Another place to spot these versatile pieces of equipment is on the farm.

Used Excavators often have attachments, or you can purchase additional attachments to fit the machinery. Few of the attachments include jackhammers (breakers), shovels, grapples, augers, etc.. Grapples are similar to claws and are used to grasp objects (trees, stumps, etc..). Used Hydraulic Mining Excavators often uses shovels. Finally, augers are similar to a drill bit, and are used to move materials.

The role of used excavators is to dig holes, trenches, and foundations. Used excavators use large machinery with hinge metal buckets, which are often attached to hydraulic arms, while using the equipment to move heavy or bulky quantities of soil or earth. In addition, used excavators are used in demolition, general landscaping, grading, heavy lifting, laying pipes, river dredging, mining, open-pit mining, brush cutting, etc. Brush cutting is possible when operators use hydraulic attachments.

4- Heavy lift, e.g. lifting and placing of pipes
5- River dredging
6- Mining, especially, but not only open-pit mining
7- Brush cutting with hydraulic attachments

Varieties of Used Excavators

Used Excavators come in a wide variety of sizes. The smaller ones are called a mini-excavator or compact excavator. One manufacturer's largest model weighs 84,980 kg (187,360 lb) and has a maximum bucket size of 4.5 m³ (5.9 yd³). The same manufacturer's smallest mini-excavator weighs 1470 kg (3240 lb), has a maximum bucket size of 0.036 m³ (0.048 yd³) and the width of its tracks can be adjusted to 89 cm (35 inches). Another company makes a mini excavator that will fit through a doorway with tracks that can be adjusted to only 70 cm (28 inches) wide.

Often the bucket can be replaced with other tools like a breaker, a grapple or an auger. Used Excavators are usually employed together with loaders and bulldozers. Most smaller used excavators have a small backfill (or dozer-) blade. It's a horizontal bulldozer like blade attached to the undercarriage and is used for pushing removed material back into a hole.

Why will we need a Used Excavator?

If you are going to depend on the new excavator for your day-to-day work, you should probably invest in a new excavator machine. However, if you're only going to use the excavator occasionally, buying used excavator can be a great way to save money.

Excavators are built with 8,000 to 10,000 hours expected operating lifespan, so many used excavator models are available with good operating lives left in them. Two- to three-year old used excavator models with a couple of thousand hours on them can be about 25% cheaper than new models, while older excavators with a little more wear are 50% or less of new prices.

When evaluating used excavator machines, test drives are even more important than with new excavator machines. Pay attention to the overall feel - if the tracks run freely in both directions and if the arm responds well to the controls. However, don't let yourself be wowed by a fresh coat of paint - that can sometimes mean the dealer is hiding other problems.

Inspect the undercarriage for excessive wear, rust, and shoddy repair work. Look at the hydraulic seals for signs of leaks or other problems, and check the engine for signs of neglect (cracking hoses, worn belts, etc).

Maintenance of Used Excavator

Most dealers will offer a range of maintenance contracts to choose from. If you're buying a new excavator, these generally aren't worth the cost: you can do the basic preventative maintenance yourself, and the manufacturer's warranty will cover the rare mechanical breakdown.

If you're buying a used excavator, the extra protection of a maintenance contract can be a better value. Just having expert technicians inspect and lubricate the machine once or twice per year can help prevent small defects from developing into larger problems.
